Accessibility

The society is meant to be easy to join. The website should be no different.

What we have done

Works on a phone first
Every page is designed for a phone screen and one thumb, then opened out for bigger screens.
Big enough to tap
Buttons, links and form fields are at least 48 pixels tall, with space around them.
Readable text
Text and background colours meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast in both the light and dark themes. You can bump the text size site-wide with the A/A button in the header, and it remembers your choice.
Keyboard friendly
Everything works without a mouse. Focus is always visible, and a "skip to main content" link comes first on every page.
Screen reader tested
Proper headings, landmarks, table headers and form labels. Status messages are announced without stealing your place on the page.
No motion you did not ask for
If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and smooth scrolling switch off.
Plain English
No jargon in the important bits. If a sentence needs explaining, it gets rewritten.

Where we know we fall short

We are honest about this rather than claiming perfection. The payment step hands over to Stripe, whose checkout we do not control. Any photos added later need proper descriptions written for them, and we have not yet tested every page with a screen reader on Android.

If something does not work for you

Tell us and we will fix it — and in the meantime we will do the thing you were trying to do for you, over the phone or in the bar. Nobody misses an outing because of a website.
